1 〔短い〕 short; brief.

2 〔欠点〕 a fault; a defect; a demerit; a shortcoming; a weak point.

●短を補う remedy [make up, supply] a defect

・長を取り短を捨てる take what is good and throw out [leave] what is bad

・長をもって短を補う make up for one's faults with one's merits

・人の長を取って己の短を補う improve oneself [one's own defects] by following the good examples of others.
